McMaster People for Animal Welfare Society (Paws@Mac) have started a petition campaign to the City of Hamilton, Mayor Bob Bratina and the City council in order to encourage the ban of selling cats and dogs in pet stores, like Toronto has done recently. Their goal is to have a minimum of 2000 signatures by October 26th. Please help by writing to us at admin@uglymutts.com for your copy of the petition. Paws@Mac is collaborating with a number of other local animal agencies including Pride Rescue, Ugly Mutts Dog Rescue, Animal Alliance of Hamilton and Animal Angel Rescue Foundation as this is an urgent matter.
Justine Sophia of Paws@Mac let us know that a facebook event has been created for it titled “Ban the sale of cats and dogs in pet stores Campaign to City of Hamilton!” Please check it out.
It is felt by all canine advocates that many pet stores sell animals from puppy mills/ backyard breeders and we would like to see the ban in place along with a stipulation that pet stores participate in adoption programs with local animal shelters rather than buying from puppy mills. We feel that impulse purchases (especially around the holidays) is leading to the unnecessary abandonment and neglect of many companion animals.
Also, you can help by writing to us at admin@uglymutts.com for your copy of the petition.
Thank you!
