Foster Dog Program
Save A Life – Become A Foster Parent
Ugly Mutts is always in need of caring pet-friendly homes to foster animals. As we are not a shelter, we depend on people who are willing to open their home and their heart to cute puppies and deserving dogs. Foster homes act as dog sanctuaries providing many rescued dogs with their first experience of being in a loving home environment.

The rescued dogs that are lucky enough to be accepted into our foster dog program are screened and assessed by our dog experienced coordinators, and are given updated veterinary care prior to being placed into prescreened, pet-friendly foster homes. As a foster parent you will play a key role by helping to further evaluate the dogs in your care and as such you become a crucial part of our Dog Adoption Team. While you give the dogs the love and care they need, our coordinators are here to support you along the way and to ensure that your decision to foster an Ugly Mutts dog is a fun and rewarding experience for your entire family.
There are three traits a foster family must have:
- Patience – as the dog learns routines and equates itself with what is expected.
- Interest – a willingness to learn about dog training, dog behavior, dog nutrition and dog play.
- Commitment – to care for the dog as your own and to aid Ugly Mutts in finding the best new home for your foster dog.
Of course the first job of any foster parent is to show the dog that it is loved.
Ugly Mutts will supply:
- A Dog Fostering “Welcome” package
- a crate if needed for your foster dog
- a collar and leash
- approved veterinary care
- food, if requested
- support from dog experienced Ugly Mutts Coordinators
You provide:
- a loving home environment
- assessments and updates on your foster dog’s progress
- aid the Adoption Team in choosing the most suitable new home for your fostered dog
Most rescued dogs are in the medium to large size and remain in their foster home until they are adopted. As we are a no-kill dog rescue the dogs never “run out of time” and it may take anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of months to find their perfect new home.
When choosing a rescue dog for a foster family we are careful to match the dog with your specific requirements, lifestyle and home environment to ensure the easiest transition for both you and the dog. All dogs are vaccinated and vet checked prior to being placed in a foster home.
