Ugly Mutts dog rescue is the best choice for anyone looking to surrender or rehome their dog.
Why?
Trust.
We know how stressful it is when you need to find a new home for your dog. That’s why it is so important to have someone with the experience and reputation of Ugly Mutts that you can count on.
Ugly Mutts is wholly committed to the best interests of canine companions. As concerned dog owners ourselves, we want to ensure that you have looked at all your alternatives before surrendering your dog. When circumstances arise however and there is no choice but to rehome your pet, Ugly Mutts offers an understanding and compassionate alternative to guarantee your dog’s future happiness and security.
With a team of pet-friendly, loving foster homes we are able to care for your dog as if it was our own pet. Dogs to not “run-out-of-time” while in our care and will receive the same love and attention that you would be giving to your dog no matter how long it takes to find that perfect new home.
Our experienced Coordinators will access your pet once it is in our care and will provide further training, medical treatment or behaviour modification if needed to ensure it will be a respected and capable companion in its new home. Dogs for adoption are seen by appointment only after it is determined an adopter is a suitable match for the specific dog. With our in-depth screening process we can ensure not only that the adopter will meet the needs of your pet, but that the dog will meet the wants and desires of the adoptive family. Ugly Mutts Adoption Team make it their goal to ensure that each dog is placed in only the most suitable, loving, permanent new forever home with committed adopters.
Once your dog is placed in its new home you will receive a brief description and a picture of them along with their new family. From there you can see updates about your dog on their “Happy Tails” page and watch as they transition into their new home.
Ugly Mutts Dog Rescue does not “sell” dogs and donations received for adoption of a dog are used to help offset the cost of rescuing and maintaining less fortunate canines who do not have someone to speak for them. Most dogs adopted through Ugly Mutts are coming direct from pounds and shelters where they have been slated for euthanasia. As such, owner surrendered pets are accepted only as space permits.
The Truth About Dog ‘Rescue’
Your first instinct might be to reach out to the SPCA. Regardless that things have changed over the years do to dedicated animal lovers, the SPCA mainly functions as a means to rid their community of unwanted pets and as such are still a kill shelter. As well, the SPCA is an institutionalized environment where the pets are kept in runs or cages with limited human contact. This often causes trauma to the pet resulting in issues that make it even harder for them to find a new home.
You could take them to a local rescue but many so-called “rescues” are nothing more than a means for hoarding dogs which are kept in unsanitary and unsafe conditions with no concern for the dog’s needs or security. How can you know who to trust?
You might think that a “free to good home” ad is the way to find a loving family for your dog. THIS IS THE MOST DANGEROUS OPTION. There is a whole industry thriving on free dogs to sell to research labs, to use as bait dogs for dog fighting, and a host of other fates worse than death.

The following is just a sampling of the feedback we have received from previous dog owners:
“Thank you so much for letting us know Tara’s progress. I can’t tell you have happy I am to
hear of her new mom and dad. I am simply amazed at how quickly you were able to place her. I think I’ve always known that she would find a new family quickly if she was somewhere she would be seen by many. Thank you again for all your help.” -Jen B
“I have the hugest smile on my face ever from reading that email and I am so happy she
is with a loving family. I just got back some pictures and I can’t stop looking at them. Wow!
I really loved that dog way more than I could have ever imagined. Keep sending the updates…
I love them!”
“I wanted to take a moment to thank you, as well as the family that took Tia in, for giving these two a wonderful new start. They are both terribly missed, but it makes it much easier knowing they have moved on to people who seem to love and treasure them as much as we did.”
Warm Regards,
Denise
