Ugly Mutts is wholly committed to the best interests of canine companions. As concerned dog owners ourselves, we want to ensure that you have looked at all your alternatives before surrendering your dog. When circumstances arise however and there is no choice but to rehome your pet, Ugly Mutts offers an understanding and compassionate alternative to guarantee your dog’s future happiness and security.
Once accepted by Ugly Mutts your pet will be placed into a caring, pet-friendly foster home. There is no time limit on how long a dog remains in our care and they will continue to be loved and cared for like our own pet until we find that perfect new home. When your pet is adopted you will receive notice from the Adoption Team who will send a picture of the new family with the pet. From there you can read updates and follow your pet’s progress as they transition into their new home from our online scrapbook - “Happy Tails”
When you bring your dog into our care you will be required to bring all medical records, a supply of their current food so there are no tummy upsets and anything else that belongs to the dog which you feel would help with the transition into their new home. You will also be required to make a minimum $100.00 donation to the Rescue which will be kept with the dog while it is in our care and will be used to maintain your pet for as long as it takes to find their perfect new home or in case of any emergency. If the donation is not needed for your pet prior to adoption it will then be absorbed by the Rescue and used to help other pets in need. If your pet does not have up to date vaccinations or is not spayed or neutered, you may be asked to help with those costs or to have the necessary medical work done prior to the pet coming into our care.
If you are looking to surrender your pet to Ugly Mutts, please note that we can only accept your dog if there is an available foster home. Otherwise you may be put on a waiting list until there is an available home at which time our Rescue Team will contact you. As all of our dogs are placed into private homes with children and/or other pets, we are unable to accept any dog that has severe behavioural issues, severe aggression issues, or if the dog has a “bite” history. In this case we will try to offer alternatives to help you and your pet. Due to the current ban on Pit Bulls and Pit Bull mixes we are unable to accept them into our care.
By choosing to place your pet with Ugly Mutts you are not only guaranteeing your own pet’s future but are also helping to save the lives of other unfortunate dogs as proceeds from adoptions are used to rescue, medically treat and maintain dogs from local shelters and pounds that would otherwise have been euthanized.

Most of the dogs accepted by Ugly Mutts are coming direct from pounds and shelters where they have been slated for euthanasia. As such, owner surrendered pets are accepted only as space permits. As well, Ugly Mutts does reserve the right to refuse any pet it deems to be unadoptable for any reason.
